The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has revealed details of a heated telephone argument with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, disclosing that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had to intervene with a three-way call to resolve the dispute.
Kingibe made the disclosure on Friday while speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
The lawmaker said she had persistently called Wike over an urgent matter until he eventually answered, after which the conversation quickly deteriorated into a shouting match.
“I have Wike’s number, and he has my number too. I kept calling and calling till he picked up the phone. And then he proceeded to yell at me. We yelled at each other for a few minutes, and we put the phone down,” she said.
Kingibe added that the Senate President subsequently initiated a three-way call between both parties, which helped bring the matter to a resolution.
“The Senate President intervened and did a three-way call, and we resolved the issue. For me, that issue was urgent, and that is why I called him. I was determined that he was going to pick up,” she said.
The senator also recounted a moment during the exchange where she offered to visit Wike’s office in person, only to be turned down in a manner she found unusual.
“I said, are you in your office? Let me come and see you. He said, no, no, no, don’t come here yet. He sounded as if I was going to harm him,” Kingibe said.
She did not disclose the specific subject of the disagreement but confirmed that the matter was resolved following Akpabio’s intervention.
