An Abuja-based church, Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide, has removed a newly married woman, Oyiza, from its membership for allegedly declining to consummate her union with her husband, Isaac.
The couple, who lived in Ibadan, Oyo State, were joined together on September 6, 2025, after fulfilling traditional rites in Okene, Kogi State, and sealing their union at a court registry in Ibadan. Oyiza is said to be a native of Kogi State.
The marriage reportedly ran into difficulty shortly after the ceremony, as the bride allegedly resisted intimacy, maintaining that she did not love her husband. She was also reported to have accused her mother of pressuring her into accepting the marriage.
Sources indicated that attempts by both families and church authorities to reconcile the pair were unsuccessful, with the bride said to have remained unyielding.
In a video shared on the church’s YouTube platform in February, the International Director of the ministry, Pastor Paul Rika, disclosed that the church had excommunicated her following about five months of mediation efforts.
While addressing members, the cleric condemned her actions and declared that the church had withdrawn fellowship from her, urging congregants to pray over the development.
He faulted her for proceeding with the marriage despite allegedly lacking affection for her husband.
Providing his own account, Isaac stated that Oyiza had consented when he first declared his intention to marry her, leading the church’s marriage committee to approve the wedding plans.
He, however, revealed that months before the ceremony, she began expressing doubts, claiming she had lost interest.
According to him, she was counselled by church leaders and relatives and later indicated she was willing to continue with the marriage process.
After the completion of both traditional and court ceremonies, the wedding was held amid celebration, with photographs showing the couple in cheerful moments with friends and church members.
Isaac alleged that the crisis resurfaced soon after the wedding, as his wife again declined intimacy.
He said he exercised restraint and patience, hoping the situation would change.
He further claimed that during several counselling sessions, she remained firm in her stance, allegedly insisting there was no love or happiness in the relationship.
The husband also accused her of alleging attempted rape whenever he sought closeness, a claim he said compounded the tension between them.
Efforts to get Oyiza’s response to the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.
