The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, has stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, remains a committed servant of President Bola Tinubu’s administration regardless of his absence from the party’s membership register.
Basiru disclosed this during an appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines programme, urging Nigerians to draw a clear line between formal party affiliation and active service to government.
“He may not carry our membership card, but Wike is delivering for an APC administration under Tinubu,” the party scribe noted.
The APC chieftain further argued that the sweeping transformation recorded across the Federal Capital Territory under Wike’s watch played no small role in delivering electoral victory for the party in the FCT council polls.
He described the minister’s scorecard as nothing short of “sterling,” pointing out that the reach of ongoing projects had extended well beyond city centres into the heart of suburban communities, winning the party considerable goodwill at the grassroots.
“The physical transformation visible across the FCT, from the inner cities down to the outskirts, speaks volumes about what has been achieved in under three years,” Basiru told the programme’s anchor.
The APC scribe equally attributed the party’s success to shrewd candidate selection, noting that individuals with proven records across various political divides were deliberately recruited to fly the party’s flag.
He insisted the party’s electoral showing and Wike’s governance record were two sides of the same coin and could not be examined in isolation from each other.
“Strong governance delivery in the FCT directly powered our performance at the polls. The two are inseparable,” he maintained.
Wike, once a towering figure within the Peoples Democratic Party and former Governor of Rivers State, threw his weight behind the Tinubu presidency after the 2023 polls in a political realignment that continues to attract scrutiny across the country.
