How female NSCDC officer died in accident during Abuja simulation exercise

Tragedy struck the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as a female operative was killed after being run over by a patrol vehicle during a routine simulation drill in Abuja.

The fatal incident occurred during a coordinated show-of-force exercise in the Federal Capital Territory, leaving fellow officers and witnesses in shock.

The Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the development on Saturday, describing the incident as a regrettable operational accident.

Clips that later emerged online showed the patrol vehicle hitting the officer while making a turn as part of the drill. The driver was said to have stopped immediately after the collision.

Other personnel at the scene quickly moved in to rescue the victim, pulling her from under the vehicle before she was rushed for medical attention by emergency responders. Despite efforts to save her, she was confirmed dead.

Speaking on the development, Babawale stated that the Corps had initiated necessary internal protocols in response to the incident.

“It is true that we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are already on their way to the residence of the deceased to commiserate with the family,” he said.

He further noted that the agency would issue a comprehensive statement detailing the circumstances of the accident and subsequent actions.

As of press time, the name of the deceased officer had not been officially disclosed by the authorities.
