The Ondo State Police Command has reinforced security presence at major churches and mosques across the state as part of measures aimed at preventing potential threats and boosting public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, led an inspection tour of selected worship centres on March 1, 2026, to ascertain adherence to existing safety regulations and review security arrangements put in place by the facilities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the exercise was consistent with the 2022 Executive Order of the state government, which requires the installation of Closed-Circuit Television cameras in religious institutions and other public venues.
During the assessment, the police boss visited notable centres such as NASFAT Central Mosque, St. Stephen Anglican Church, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ansarudeen Central Mosque and Celestial Church of Christ, alongside other religious centres.
Lawal advised religious leaders and management teams to remain watchful and strengthen internal protective measures, highlighting the importance of effective screening procedures and properly functioning CCTV systems to enhance surveillance and intelligence efforts.
He also encouraged residents to collaborate with security agencies by sharing timely and credible information, stressing that maintaining security is a collective duty.
The commissioner further directed officers deployed to worship centres to be vigilant, courteous and proactive in carrying out their responsibilities, reaffirming the command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment for worshippers throughout the state.
