A tragic road mishap has claimed the life of one person and left three others critically injured at Aiyetoro Junction along the traffic light corridor in Epe, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed that the crash occurred on Sunday when a truck conveying yams reportedly veered off course and crashed into a commercial tricycle parked by the roadside.
In a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, initial findings indicated that the truck, with registration number AGL 764 XB, was heading from Ijebu-Ode and attempted a U-turn toward Eleko at the junction.
The driver was said to have lost control during the manoeuvre, slamming into a tricycle marked SMK 127 QR.
The force of the collision led to the death of one occupant, while three others sustained serious injuries.
Taofiq stated that traffic officials who were on routine patrol in the area promptly moved to the scene to manage the aftermath and avert further disruption.
He noted that operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and military officers, collaborated to rescue the trapped victims.
According to him, the injured and the remains of the deceased were evacuated by the FRSC to the General Hospital, Epe, for treatment and other necessary procedures, while security operatives maintained order and restored normal traffic flow.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for strength to bear the loss.
He also wished the injured a speedy recovery and called for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the accident, stressing that anyone found culpable must be held accountable in line with the law.
