The Borno State Police Command has apprehended two men for allegedly vandalising high-tension electricity cables and recovered 13 sacks of the damaged items in Gubio Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad under the Anti-Social Vice Unit after security authorities acted on actionable intelligence.
In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said the operation was carried out on January 26, 2026, at about 10am.
He named the suspects as 24-year-old Saminu Muhammed and 25-year-old Mohammed Bukar, adding that they were found with 13 sacks containing cut sections of high-tension power cables.
Daso explained that the cables had been packaged in sacks and masked as animal feed in a bid to avoid suspicion.
He noted that the case had been broadened to uncover other possible accomplices, stressing that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The police spokesman reiterated the command’s determination to clamp down on the destruction and theft of vital public infrastructure in the state.
