Man detained by residents in Ondo over alleged possession of women’s underwear

A man who gave his name as Joseph was reportedly intercepted by residents on Sunday evening at Ikare Junction in Owo, Ondo State, after he was allegedly caught with a nylon bag containing several female underwear.

The incident gained attention after a video shared on social media by blogger Oluwaseun Ogunmola, popularly called Ogbeni OB Sugar, showed the suspect being interrogated by a crowd.

In the footage, the man claimed he travelled from the Akoko area to Owo in search of employment and said he picked up the items at a location where he had gone to take a bath.

He further alleged that the bag was given to him by a mentally unstable woman after an encounter between them, a statement that was met with scepticism by onlookers.

Eyewitnesses said some youths accused him of involvement in suspected ritual activities often linked to internet fraud, allegations he denied while insisting on his innocence.

The situation reportedly became tense as some residents attempted to attack him, but others intervened and prevented the incident from escalating into mob violence.

As of the time of filing this report, it remained uncertain whether the suspect had been handed over to law enforcement authorities, while security agencies had yet to officially comment on the development.
