At least 20 shops were reduced to ashes following a fire outbreak at Faringada Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident was confirmed by the National Emergency Management Agency in a statement posted on its official X account.
The agency said the blaze erupted around 6:00 a.m., primarily affecting shops trading in automobile spare parts.
In addition to the shops, four containers and two vehicles, a commercial bus and a Toyota Corolla, were reportedly burnt in the incident. No loss of life was recorded.
NEMA disclosed that its Jos Operations Office worked alongside the Federal Fire Service to put out the flames, preventing further damage to nearby stalls.
The agency noted that initial reports from market sources indicated that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined. It added that investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
The statement further highlighted that the inferno led to considerable financial losses for the affected traders.
