Residents of Agbonchia in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State were thrown into confusion on Tuesday morning when a yet-to-be-identified man reportedly slumped and died while exercising.
The incident occurred in the early hours along a major road in the community, where the man was said to have been jogging before he suddenly fell to the ground.
A video obtained by PUNCH Metro on X showed sympathisers gathered around the victim as he lay unresponsive. In the background, a concerned resident appealed to members of the public to help identify him and reach his family.
“A man just collapsed here in Agbonchia, Eleme. If anyone recognises him, please contact his people. He was jogging when he suddenly fell. There’s no pulse,” the voice said.
Eyewitnesses at the scene disclosed that only a few minutes had elapsed between the time he collapsed and when residents began to converge on the spot.
According to one of them, “It happened about five minutes before people started gathering.”
The footage showed the man lying still on the road with visible blood stains on his face, as onlookers expressed shock over the development.
As of press time, the identity of the deceased had not been confirmed, and the exact cause of his sudden death remained uncertain.
Efforts to obtain a response from the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful as calls placed to her were not answered.
