Iran continued its missile and drone attacks on Gulf nations despite President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent assurances that Tehran would avoid targeting neighboring countries unless provoked.
One of the strikes killed a civilian in Dubai on Saturday when debris from an intercepted missile hit a vehicle in Al Barsha. Authorities identified the victim as an Asian driver, but no further details were released.
The attacks are reportedly retaliatory, following “pre-emptive” operations by the US and Israel last Saturday. Iran has targeted US military bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait, claiming its actions do not breach the sovereignty of neighboring states.
President Pezeshkian had previously instructed that Iran would “not attack neighboring countries unless attacked first.” Nevertheless, Qatar reported intercepting a missile, and Saudi Arabia confirmed a ballistic missile aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base landed in an uninhabited area.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that its operations are focused on US and Israeli targets, warning: “All military bases and interests of the criminal America and the fake Zionist regime on land, sea, and space in the region will face severe and decisive strikes from the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
IRGC spokesperson Abolfazl Shekarchi said Gulf states that do not allow their territory or airspace to be used against Iran will remain safe, but any nation assisting Iran’s adversaries will be considered a target.
The attacks have heightened tensions in the Gulf, with regional governments insisting they have made clear that US bases and airspace would not be involved. The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council are scheduled to meet on Sunday to discuss the crisis.
