Residents of Jalingo, Taraba State, were thrown into fresh panic on Monday following a new fire outbreak, coming just hours after a previous blaze hit another part of the city.
The latest fire reportedly broke out around 2:08 p.m. at Baba Ya’u CBN Bypass, shortly after an earlier incident was recorded in the Magami area of the state capital.
The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Taraba State Command, confirmed that it responded immediately to a distress call, dispatching personnel to contain the fire.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Sylvanus Mikailu, said preliminary investigations suggested that the fire originated from bush burning nearby, which quickly spread into a residential compound.
The affected property was a three-bedroom apartment measuring about 50 by 100 feet, owned by Alhaji ASK Mai Tulare and used as a residence.
The fire service said the operation was triggered after ASFII Nurudeen Usman reported the incident, leading to rapid deployment of firefighters under the supervision of ASFII Solomon Bello.
“On arrival, the team carried out a quick assessment and began fire suppression using one medium jet from Fire Appliance FFS 206, driven by FA Auwal Muhammad,” the statement added.
No casualties were recorded, and the swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
Properties valued at roughly ₦10 million were saved due to the timely response.
The FFS reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property through prompt and professional emergency responses.
Residents were also advised to adopt preventive safety measures, including keeping basic firefighting equipment at homes and businesses to help control fire outbreaks before authorities arrive.
