The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State has detained a scrap dealer, Muhd Adamu, after he was found with 267 metres of suspected stolen aluminium cable estimated to be worth N573,300.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Monday in Dutse by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud.
Mahmud explained that the suspect, a 50-year-old resident of Maruwa town in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, was arrested at his residence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at about 3pm.
He said preliminary findings indicated that the aluminium cable had allegedly been delivered to Adamu’s house by two suspected accomplices identified as Sani and Auwalu for temporary storage.
The NSCDC spokesman added that the two suspects fled after the incident and are currently being tracked by security operatives.
According to him, Adamu remains in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional evidence.
Mahmud noted that the command had recently recorded several arrests linked to livestock rustling and the vandalism of electricity infrastructure during operations aimed at tackling criminal activities across the state.
The state Commandant of the corps cautioned individuals involved in the destruction of public infrastructure to abandon such acts or face legal consequences.
He also called on residents to remain alert and promptly alert security agencies whenever they notice suspicious movements around public facilities.
The command reiterated its resolve to protect critical national assets and ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
Mahmud further stressed that the corps would continue to work with other security agencies to combat vandalism and ensure offenders are brought before the law.
He added that the suspect would be prosecuted for unlawful possession of vandalised electrical cable after investigations are concluded.
