A young man running a Point-of-Sale (POS) business was shot dead by suspected armed robbers at his workplace in Gboko, the headquarters of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack, which took place on Monday, reportedly left residents stunned and mourning the loss of the operator.
According to locals, the victim was attending to customers when the assailants stormed the POS location and opened fire.
The attackers then made away with an undisclosed sum of money before fleeing the scene.
An eyewitness, who spoke under anonymity, said the incident unfolded rapidly, spreading fear among people nearby.
“It happened so fast; no one expected this level of violence here,” the witness said.
Community members described the victim as a hardworking young man striving to earn a living and expressed deep sorrow over his death.
Condolences and prayers for comfort have poured in for the bereaved family.
Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful.
However, sources indicate that authorities have launched an investigation into the attack.
