The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, has tasked auditors in the state to transform the auditing profession in line with global best practices in curbing corruption in the ministries, departments abd agencies.
Oladiji gave the advice when the Association of Public Service Auditors of Nigeria (APSAN), Ondo State Chapter, visited the speaker in his office in Akure.
He said that the analogue system of auditing had become obsolete, urging the newly inaugurated executives of APSAN to promote modern auditing standards capable of meeting global expectations.
The speaker reiterated the commitment of the legislative arm of government to providing the necessary support that would strengthen the auditing system and enable auditors to carry out their responsibilities more effectively and efficiently.
Earlier in his address, the state Chairman of APSAN, Mr Iyantan Olorunwa, said the visit was necessary to appreciate the speaker and members of the assembly for their support during the passage of the audit bill recently approved by the house.
Olorunwa also noted that the visit provided an opportunity to formally introduce the association and its newly inaugurated executives to the legislative arm.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the visit, Olorunwa explained that the association was newly established in the state and was committed to strengthening the professional capacity of its members.
According to him, APSAN has already organised a series of training programmes for its members, particularly on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in auditing.
He added that the training was aimed at introducing innovation and improving efficiency in the auditing system.
