The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to put aside ambitions for a 2028 governorship race and tackle the mounting insecurity across the state.
In a statement on Thursday, signed by Wándé T. Àjàyí, Director of Media and Public Communications, the opposition party expressed concern that the governor appears more focused on future elections than addressing urgent challenges affecting residents.
The PDP highlighted that many communities previously considered safe are now under siege from kidnappers and armed gangs, forcing farmers, travelers, and ordinary residents to live in fear.
The party described the situation as “deeply worrying,” saying citizens are also contending with decaying infrastructure and worsening economic conditions.
The party further reminded Aiyedatiwa of the extraordinary circumstances under which he assumed office following the death of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, noting that it is “ironical” that political scheming for another election seems to have taken precedence over governance.
“Being governor is not about preparing for the next election; it is about ensuring safety, development, and relief for the people,” the PDP said.
The statement called on the governor to redirect his focus to restoring security, rebuilding public trust, and delivering tangible benefits to the people of Ondo State.
