Comedian Broda Shaggy hospitalised after alleged shooting in Ogun

Popular comedian and social media personality, Samuel Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi, has reportedly been hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot wound in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon beneath the Sango-Ota bridge, although details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain sketchy.

A police source familiar with the development, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, disclosed that the entertainer was reportedly injured while shooting a comedy skit at the location.

The source added that the skit maker was immediately taken to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where medical personnel attended to him.

Attempts by our correspondent to get confirmation from the hospital proved abortive as calls to the contact numbers listed on its social media platforms did not go through.

A message sent to the facility had yet to receive a response as of the time of filing this report.

Speaking on the development on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the police were alerted after the injured man was brought to the hospital.

She said detectives and patrol officers were promptly deployed to the hospital following the report.

“The hospital notified the police that a gunshot victim had been brought in.

Our detectives and patrol team visited the facility where the victim was identified as a skit maker and influencer popularly known as Broda Shaggy.

“He was lying on a stretcher with a gunshot wound on his thigh. However, the incident occurred in Sango-Ota, which is outside our jurisdiction, though investigations are ongoing,” Adebisi explained.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command had yet to receive any official report concerning the alleged shooting.

“The incident was said to have taken place in Ogun State, but it has not been reported to the police here,” he stated.

Efforts to get the reaction of the comedian’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, were unsuccessful as calls made to his phone were not answered.

A text message sent to him had also not been replied to as of press time.

PUNCH Metro recalls that in October 2024, a content creator, Afeez Ojesanmi, widely known as Salo, was reportedly attacked by robbers and shot while being dispossessed of his jewellery around the Lekki axis of Lagos.
