Several people are feared dead and many others injured following multiple bomb explosions that struck parts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday evening.
The explosions reportedly occurred around 7:02 p.m. near Monday Market and close to a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Operations of the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, Mohammed Kafaran, said emergency responders had been deployed to the affected areas to assess the situation and assist victims.
Eyewitnesses said several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, including the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, for urgent medical treatment. Some residents reported seeing bodies at the scene as rescue efforts continued.
One witness described hearing a loud blast shortly after leaving a nearby post office, adding that panic spread quickly as residents and traders fled the area.
Emergency responders are currently carrying out rescue and assessment operations, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the explosions. Further details are expected as the situation develops.
