Several passengers were injured on Monday when a train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed following a collision.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST.
Opeifa said the derailment occurred near Asham, but no fatalities have been reported so far.
He added that the injured passengers were immediately transported to Idu train station to receive medical care.
“Passengers sustained injuries in the incident, and we are providing necessary medical attention while investigating the cause,” Opeifa said.
The NRC boss noted that a team has been deployed to determine what led to the derailment.
Authorities have appealed for calm as rescue and safety measures continue at the site.
Commuters and travellers are being advised to monitor official updates from the NRC for information on train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route.
