The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, acting on behalf of the Federal Government.
The development was conveyed in a statement released by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful across the country for successfully completing the Ramadan fasting period and encouraged them to continue embracing the values of compassion, generosity, tolerance, peace and selflessness highlighted during the holy month.
He also urged Nigerians to take advantage of the festive period to pray for sustained peace, unity and progress in the country.
The minister further advised citizens to celebrate the festival in a responsible manner and remember the less privileged by extending acts of charity and kindness.
According to him, the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening national cohesion and promoting peaceful coexistence among all citizens.
