The legal team representing the family of late Afrobeats singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has expressed doubts about the capacity of certain laboratories tasked with conducting a paternity test for his son, Liam.
According to a statement by the family’s counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, on behalf of applicant Joseph Aloba, a Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu had ordered on February 24, 2026, that DNA tests be conducted in three laboratories jointly agreed upon by both parties and the court to ensure transparency.
The laboratories listed include:
DNA Diagnostics Centre, Fairfield, Ohio, USA, nominated by the applicant;
Alpha Biolabs, Warrington, UK, nominated by the respondent; and
Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, London, UK, selected by the court.
Ogungbe said preliminary inquiries conducted by the applicant’s representatives revealed that two of the laboratories—Alpha Biolabs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited—do not carry out post-mortem DNA analysis on embalmed tissue, raising concerns about their technical competence for the case.
“In light of these responses, the applicant deemed it necessary to notify the Honourable Court by filing an affidavit of facts,” Ogungbe stated.
The lawyer clarified that claims suggesting deliberate selection of unqualified laboratories were misleading, noting that only one facility was nominated by the applicant. He affirmed the family’s commitment to a transparent, scientifically credible DNA testing process in compliance with the court’s directives.
The DNA test aims to establish the paternity of Liam Aloba, the only child of the late singer, as part of ongoing legal proceedings in Lagos State.
