Kenyan authorities have arrested a Nigerian and a Kenyan national following a targeted operation against a suspected narcotics syndicate.
The raid was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Unit alongside the Transnational Organised Crime Unit after receiving credible intelligence about a planned drug deal in Syokimau, Machakos County.
When the initial meeting did not take place, the operation was shifted to Ruaka, Kiambu County, based on real-time tips from undercover sources, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated on Wednesday.
During a search at Mbuti Apartments in Ruaka, officers recovered multiple items believed to be related to drug trafficking, including narcotic pellets and packages, digital scales, mobile phones, foreign passports, and cash in both Kenyan and Nigerian currencies.
The arrested individuals were identified as Okeke Ikechukwu, a Nigerian, and Alex Opondo, a Kenyan.
They were taken to Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations for processing, while all seized items were preserved for forensic analysis.
The DCI said the suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in court today.
Investigators also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged trafficking network.
Officials described the arrest as part of continued cross-border efforts to dismantle organised narcotics operations in Kenya.
