The Kano State Government has announced that Muhammadu Sanusi II will lead the traditional Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) durbar in the state, while warning that any attempt to disrupt the celebrations will not be tolerated.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders.
According to the government, intelligence reports indicated that some individuals were planning to disrupt the Sallah celebrations. Authorities therefore assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to maintain peace and protect lives and property in Kano.
The commissioner said the Hawan Idi durbar will be conducted by the Emir from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa near the Emir’s palace.
He added that the Hawan Nasarawa durbar will hold in a modified form but without horseback riding, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended in the interest of public safety.
Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance before, during, and after the festivities to ensure compliance with the directives. The government also urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving cultural traditions while ensuring that the celebrations remain peaceful and orderly.
