The Delta State Government has vowed to ensure justice for women who were sexually assaulted in Ozoro following a disturbing viral video that sparked widespread outrage online.
The footage, which circulated on social media, showed several women allegedly being molested by young men during what some participants described as a so-called “raping festival.” The incident quickly triggered condemnation from Nigerians and human rights advocates who demanded swift action from authorities.
Reacting to the development, Ossai Ovie Success, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the governor, strongly condemned the act, stressing that no such festival exists in the state.
According to him, the state government was shocked and disappointed by the incident and has already begun steps to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
“We are disappointed and shocked by the incident at the alleged festival in Ozoro. The individuals involved will face the consequences of their actions, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served,” he said.
Ovie emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of abuse or violation of citizens’ rights, particularly acts targeted at women. He added that no cultural practice or gathering should be used to justify harassment, humiliation, or violence against any individual.
Authorities have reportedly launched investigations to identify and arrest those involved in the assault. Security agencies have also been directed to intensify patrols and monitor public gatherings that may pose a threat to public safety.
The incident has generated strong reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of laws against sexual violence and greater protection for women.
