The Edo State Police Command has arrested all students involved in the recent bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Centre. Viral videos from the school showed students being beaten, flogged, and kicked by older students.
In a statement, the state police spokesman, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the suspects would be charged in the family court under laws guiding juvenile justice and child protection.
The statement detailed the events: On Thursday, March 5, 2026, two 14-year-old female students had a disagreement with another student, who reportedly insulted their late father by saying, “Ogun kill your papa.” Angered, the girls allegedly attacked the student after school. A parent who intervened was also confronted and had her clothes dragged. The school expelled the girls for violent conduct.
The following day, March 6, a retaliatory attack occurred. The male student, whose mother had been assaulted, attacked the girls’ brother in what appeared to be an act of revenge. This incident was recorded and later went viral.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered intensified patrols and the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across Edo secondary schools. Officers are also engaging students and school administrators through advocacy, sensitization, and reorientation programs to prevent such incidents in the future.
The police urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to take greater responsibility for the moral guidance and supervision of students, while advising children to report grievances through proper channels.
Edo State Ministry of Education, through Permanent Secretary Edith Ebomoyi, condemned the violent acts, stating they violate the principles of discipline, respect, and safety expected in all schools. The school reiterated that the students involved had been expelled and assured the public that measures were being taken to prevent recurrence.
The police command affirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting children, and ensuring justice is served.
