The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a power outage affecting several communities in Lagos following a fire incident along the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
In a statement released on Saturday, the electricity distribution company said the disruption occurred after a vehicle collided with a stationary gas tanker, triggering a fire that damaged key power infrastructure.
According to EKEDC, the blaze caused significant damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment, resulting in the outage.
“Our technical team is working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore the power supply as quickly and safely as possible,” the company said while apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused by the incident.
The affected areas include communities connected to the Medallion feeder and the Ibeju 33kV feeder, such as Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan.
The outage comes shortly after a gas explosion in the Ajah–Sangotedo area of Lagos claimed two lives and destroyed several properties, including warehouses and roadside shops.
Residents in the affected communities have been advised to remain cautious while repair work continues, as EKEDC engineers work to restore electricity supply to homes and businesses.
