The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission has commenced the distribution of relief packages worth N400m to residents of Ilaje Local Government Area affected by a reported military incursion.
The move comes months after personnel of the Nigerian Navy were accused of storming Obejedo, Obe-Adun and Obe-Nla communities, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.
Following the incident, affected residents had lodged complaints with security agencies, alleging displacement and significant losses as a result of the operation.
Addressing beneficiaries in Igbokoda on Saturday, OSOPADEC Chairman, Biyi Poroye, said the intervention was carried out on the instruction of the state governor after an on-the-spot assessment.
He disclosed that the distributed items ranged from food supplies to household equipment, all aimed at easing the burden on those impacted by the crisis.
Poroye maintained that the N400m approved for the exercise was judiciously utilised to provide both immediate relief and support for rebuilding damaged homes.
He further highlighted ongoing development efforts by the commission, including jetty construction, school renovations and the revival of the Agadagba hospital project.
Chairman of the OSOPADEC Palliative Committee, Dr Ola Judah, also noted that the initiative extended beyond relief materials, with the construction and rehabilitation of houses, as well as provision of fishing tools and a bakery to help restore livelihoods.
