2027: Adeyanju Emerges Most Preferred Candidate for Ondo North Senate — Survey

A recent public opinion survey has projected Michael Abayomi Adeyanju, Chief Executive Officer of the Imole Progressive Network (IPN), as the most preferred candidate for the 2027 senatorial election in Ondo North Senatorial District.

The perception survey, conducted by the Research and Public Opinion Unit of PenPlus Online Media Publishers through its PenPlus Stat Index, assessed voters’ awareness of their elected representatives, public perception of their performance, and early political preferences ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the survey, 12,024 respondents drawn from different sectors of society participated in the exercise. The respondents included farmers, traders, civil servants, artisans, youths and community stakeholders across the six local government areas in the senatorial district.

The survey covered all 72 political wards across the six LGAs in the district, including:

Akoko North-East

Akoko North-West

Akoko South-East

Akoko South-West

Dissatisfaction with Current Representation

Findings from the poll indicate a high level of political awareness among voters in the district, with respondents confirming familiarity with their representatives in the National Assembly.

However, the survey revealed significant dissatisfaction with the performance of the current senator, with 85 percent of respondents rating the performance as “very poor.”

Respondents cited limited constituency presence, low visibility, and insufficient development interventions as major factors influencing their negative assessment.

In contrast, members of the House of Representatives representing the district received relatively moderate ratings, with 45 percent of respondents describing their performance as “average.”

Many respondents pointed to constituency projects, accessibility of lawmakers, and grassroots engagement as reasons for their relatively better perception.

Early Voter Preference for 2027

The survey also examined early voter preferences for the 2027 senatorial election in Ondo North.

According to the findings, 90 percent of respondents expressed support for Michael Abayomi Adeyanju, popularly known as “Imole,” as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat.

Analysts say the results highlight growing voter demand for strong grassroots engagement, visible development projects, and accessible representation.

Key Findings

The survey identified several key trends shaping the political landscape in Ondo North:

High political awareness among voters across all wards

Strong dissatisfaction with the current senatorial representation

Moderate approval of House of Representatives members

Constituency development projects as a major determinant of voter approval

Strong early voter preference for Michael Abayomi Adeyanju

Researchers noted that voters in the district increasingly evaluate elected officials based on tangible development initiatives, accessibility, and community engagement.

The findings offer an early indication of the political mood in Ondo North as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
