Residents of Kwara South Senatorial District have been thrown into anxiety following threats by suspected terrorists to launch attacks on some communities in the area.
The warning, which reportedly targets three local government areas Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch in the district, Olaitan Zubair.
The statement, which was also forwarded to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police and the chairmen of the affected local government areas, raised concerns over possible coordinated attacks.
Part of the statement indicated that intelligence reports suggested potential security breaches in Kwara on March 23, as well as broader threats to parts of Yorubaland from March 28, shortly after the Ramadan period.
Zubair called for urgent measures to forestall any attack, urging security agencies to heighten surveillance and ensure the safety of residents.
He noted that the development had already triggered fear among residents, stressing the need for authorities to provide reassurance and take proactive steps.
“The people are anxious and require assurances regarding their safety. We urge swift intervention and vigilance,” the statement added.
Attempts to get a reaction from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
