A 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, has been banished from Ohatekwe Ukawu community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State over the alleged murder of his mother.
The tragic incident, said to have happened during the weekend, has left residents in shock as the community grapples with the loss of the deceased, identified as Onyemaechi.
According to sources, the suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete following a disagreement before escaping into a nearby forest.
It was further learnt that youths in the area organised a search party, tracked him to his hiding place, and eventually apprehended him.
Following his arrest, the suspect was reportedly paraded within the community and declared banished, with strict instructions not to return.
A video circulating on social media showed the suspect admitting to the act, claiming his actions were triggered by his mother’s refusal to bathe him and assist financially in setting up a barbing business for his brother.
“I carried out the act because she refused to bathe me and also declined to provide money to secure a shop for my brother after his apprenticeship,” he reportedly said.
The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the development, noting that over 200 youths participated in the operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
He added that the suspect had since been handed over to the police for investigation, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue.
