Operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Sunday rescued a man armed with a knife who was trapped in a deep well in the Owutu area of Ikorodu.
The Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye, said the incident was reported at about 7 a.m., prompting a swift response from firefighters stationed at Ikorodu.
She explained that the man resisted rescue attempts while brandishing a knife, requiring the team to exercise extreme caution.
A video from the scene showed the victim claiming he had been assaulted while sleeping prior to the incident.
Adeseye noted that personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Owutu Division, assisted in the operation, ensuring the safe extraction of the man, who was rescued alive.
Earlier on the same day, the agency responded to two additional fire incidents. One involved a blaze at an abandoned warehouse in Ikeja, where firefighters had to force entry to contain the fire. No injuries were reported.
The second fire occurred at a power facility in Surulere, caused by a damaged lightning arrestor.
The outbreak was quickly controlled, and no casualties were recorded.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to prompt emergency response and the safety of residents across Lagos State.
