Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has maintained that his son will not be buried until a DNA test confirms the paternity of the singer’s child.
A magistrate court in Ikorodu had earlier ordered a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to determine whether Liam Aloba is the biological son of the deceased.
The order was issued by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga while ruling on an application filed by Mohbad’s father.
Speaking in a video shared on his TikTok account, Joseph Aloba alleged that some influential individuals were trying to obstruct the process. He also revealed plans to consult his lawyer about possibly moving the case out of Lagos State to Ekiti State.
According to him, the DNA test is a critical condition before the burial can proceed.
He appealed to the Lagos State Government to allow the family to bury the singer, but insisted that the paternity test must first be completed.
Earlier, the family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, disclosed that the court had directed that the test be conducted in three mutually agreed laboratories to ensure transparency.
The laboratories listed include DNA Diagnostics Centre, AlphaBiolabs, and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited. However, the family said preliminary checks raised concerns about the technical capacity of some of the facilities.
Mohbad died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances, sparking nationwide outrage and legal disputes over his death, estate, royalties, and the paternity of his son.
His son, Liam, was born in April 2023, a few months before the singer’s death, and the issue of paternity has continued to attract widespread public attention.
