The Senate of Bayero University Kano has approved the expulsion of 172 students over separate cases of admission credential falsification and physical assault on examination invigilators.
The decision was reached at the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, following a thorough investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.
A statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin on Friday disclosed that 171 of the affected students were found to have submitted falsified credentials during their admission process, with the affected individuals cutting across different departments and academic levels.
The university said the offence constituted a violation of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes outright expulsion for such misconduct.
Management described the mass expulsion as part of deliberate efforts to sanitise the institution’s academic records and restore confidence in its admissions process.
In a related development, the Senate approved the separate expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, for his alleged involvement in a physical assault on invigilators during an examination, an act the institution said disrupted the conduct of the exercise and breached its student discipline regulations.
The university reaffirmed its zero tolerance stance on academic fraud and indiscipline, warning that all future violations would attract sanctions in strict accordance with its established rules.
“This mass expulsion serves as a stern warning to current and prospective students that BUK maintains a zero tolerance policy toward both academic fraud and indiscipline,” the statement read.
