The Ondo State House of Assembly has called on the management of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) to appear before lawmakers over claims of corruption and financial mismanagement.
Lawmakers said the move follows petitions from community leaders, stakeholders, and members of the public demanding legislative scrutiny.
Speaking to journalists after a plenary session, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, said the invitation aligns with Section 128(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to summon individuals and request relevant documents for investigations.
He added that the House will not stand by while allegations of mismanagement affect agencies charged with serving public interests.
Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on OSOPADEC, Hon. Oluwatoyin Allen, explained that the exercise aims to ensure the commission fulfills its mandate effectively.
Allen urged the management to cooperate fully with the investigation and provide all necessary information to facilitate transparency.
The Speaker assured residents, particularly in oil-producing communities, that the probe would be thorough, impartial, and aimed at reinforcing accountability.
He emphasized that the legislative action is intended to restore public trust in the commission and safeguard the welfare of the communities it serves.
