Authorities have arrested Tajudeen Baruwa following an attempted takeover of the National Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
According to reports, Baruwa allegedly led members of his faction to seize control of the union’s headquarters from Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), sparking tensions within the organization.
The incident comes days after a ruling by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, which ordered MC Oluomo to vacate the office of NURTW president. The court further directed that Baruwa assume leadership of the union’s affairs. The judgment was delivered on March 12.
Despite the ruling, the attempted takeover reportedly escalated into a confrontation, prompting police intervention and Baruwa’s subsequent arrest. Authorities have not yet released full details on the charges or whether others involved in the incident are in custody.
