Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday took over the Maitama residence of a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in the Federal Capital Territory.
The officials, said to be led by Folarin Dare, arrived the area in a convoy of about five vehicles and immediately mounted a heavy security presence around the property.
Witnesses disclosed that the anti-graft agents, dressed in the commission’s signature red and black jackets, blocked the road leading to the residence and restricted movement in the vicinity.
The building, situated at No. 2 Koranakh Close, off Amazon Street in Maitama, was sealed off as the operatives prevented access to the premises.
Residents and passersby were reportedly turned back as security operatives maintained a tight cordon around the location.
Though the EFCC has yet to formally comment on the operation, sources indicated that the move may not be unconnected with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
Malami, who held office as the nation’s chief law officer in the previous administration, has been the subject of scrutiny over certain actions taken during his tenure.
As of the time of filing this report, further details surrounding the operation remained unclear.
