The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, has maintained that he is still in charge of the union amid a fresh leadership dispute.
His reaction followed reports that Tajudeen Baruwa had assumed control of the union’s national secretariat, relying on court judgments he claims support his position.
The situation has triggered renewed tension within the union, as both camps continue to assert authority over its leadership.
Responding to the development, Akinsanya faulted the move, describing it as unlawful and lacking proper legal backing.
In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday, he alleged that the secretariat was forcefully taken over despite ongoing legal proceedings.
He argued that the court ruling being cited did not involve him as a party and therefore could not be used to remove him from office.
Akinsanya further disclosed that the judgment had been challenged in court and that a stay of execution had already been secured.
He said he had deliberately avoided engaging Baruwa or any other individual due to the pending suits, insisting that the matter should be resolved through the courts.
The NURTW leader appealed to members nationwide to remain peaceful, noting that security agencies were keeping watch to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
