A former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, engaged operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a tense standoff during an early morning visit to his residence in Abuja.
The confrontation, captured in a video that surfaced online, showed Malami questioning the legality of the officials’ presence and demanding proof of authorisation.
He was heard insisting that the operatives produce a valid court order, expressing displeasure over what he described as an attempt to embarrass him.
“Where is the court order? Do you intend to disgrace me?” he asked during the exchange.
In response, the anti-graft agency’s officials reportedly maintained that their actions were lawful, stating that the property was under investigation and subject to due process.
Malami, however, countered their claim, arguing that any order cited by the operatives had already expired and could not justify their continued actions.
He also questioned the repeated visits by the officials, noting that they had earlier been at another of his residences the same day.
The former minister further argued that the order referenced by the operatives lacked clear directives empowering them to act on the property, adding that the matter was already before a competent court.
