A Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, has remanded a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, over her alleged role in the death of a corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
Ariyo, 23, was serving with the National Youth Service Corps in Abeokuta South Local Government Area before she died under circumstances linked to pregnancy complications.
The prosecution alleged that the nurse administered drugs to the deceased in an attempt to terminate a pregnancy, which reportedly led to her death.
Police prosecutor, Solomon Babalola, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred between January and March 2026 at Ikereku area in Laderin, Abeokuta.
“The defendant, alongside others now at large, allegedly conspired to carry out an abortion and in the process caused the death of the victim,” he told the court.
Babalola noted that the charges, including conspiracy, attempted abortion and murder, are offences under the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
He urged the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecution.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the application and ordered that the defendant be held at the Ibara Correctional Centre.
The matter was adjourned until May 26 for mention, while a separate case involving an NYSC official linked to the incident is ongoing.
