An Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, Olorogun Samson, has stepped down from his position as he prepares to contest in the 2027 general elections.
Samson, in a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and shared on Wednesday, said the decision followed extensive consultations and his resolve to pursue his ambition of representing Ughelli South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.
He stated that his resignation was taken after careful reflection, prayers, and discussions with family members and political associates, noting that the evolving electoral process now demands his full commitment.
According to him, the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission has intensified political activities, making it necessary for him to devote adequate time to his aspiration.
Samson described his tenure in the administration as a rare privilege, expressing appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve and the leadership experience he gained during his time in office.
He added that his decision to resign was also guided by the need to prevent any clash between his official responsibilities and political ambition, while reaffirming his loyalty to the governor.
The former aide said he remained grateful for the confidence reposed in him and sought the governor’s understanding as he embarks on the next phase of his political journey.
The resignation comes shortly after Oborevwori directed all political appointees intending to contest elective positions in the 2027 polls to vacate their offices on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive, conveyed in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, was said to be in compliance with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the electoral timetable issued by INEC.
