Four men have been arrested by the police for allegedly impersonating the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to defraud victims of over N150 million.
One of the suspects, identified as Yashim Kajang, was arrested on Tuesday in Abuja for allegedly deceiving a retired military officer, Major General A.K. Ibrahim, and others through a fake land deal.
Investigators said Kajang allegedly claimed to have connections with the FCT Minister and officials in the Department of Lands, collecting large sums of money from victims by promising to secure documents for Plot 1985 located in Guzape II Cadastral Zone.
A source disclosed that the suspect made victims believe he was working with top government officials who could facilitate the allocation of land.
During interrogation, Kajang reportedly named three accomplices, Stephen Mhambe, Danladi Jatau, and Terngu Ipaven, who were subsequently arrested.
According to an update from Lere Olayinka, Wike’s aide, Kajang admitted that his accomplices supplied him with data and details of lands used in the fraudulent transactions.
All four suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
