The All Progressives Congress has clarified that payments for expression of interest and nomination forms for party positions are generally non-refundable, a party official said on Friday.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stressed that aspirants are expected to understand the requirements of the offices they seek before making payments.
Morka explained that the party presumes applicants are aware of the eligibility criteria, including the correct constituencies for the positions they intend to contest.
“You know, normally, ordinarily, these payments for expression of interests and nomination forms are not refundable. The party assumes, and you are presumed to know what you’re applying for,” he said.
He noted that mistakes, such as applying for a position outside one’s constituency, are considered the responsibility of the aspirant.
However, Morka acknowledged that in exceptional cases, the party has approved refunds in the past, indicating that such requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
“So I don’t rule that out. If the individual affected makes a request for a refund, I’m sure it will be given due consideration by the party,” he added.
The clarification comes as the APC prepares for its national convention, with thousands of aspirants expected to submit forms for various party positions across the country.
