The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party has taken a fresh turn as a faction led by Kabiru Turaki has petitioned the Supreme Court of Nigeria to stop a rival group from holding its planned national convention.
In the filing, the Turaki-led group is seeking an order to prevent supporters of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, from proceeding with the convention slated for March 29 and 30.
The appeal, lodged on Friday, challenges the verdict of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, which affirmed the nullification of the faction’s earlier convention.
That convention, organised by the group, took place in November 2025 in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State.
The exercise had initially been voided by the Federal High Court, a decision later upheld by the appellate court, prompting the faction to escalate the matter to the apex court.
In its submission, the Turaki camp maintained that both lower courts acted outside their legal authority, arguing that the issue fell beyond their jurisdiction.
The group is therefore asking the Supreme Court to overturn the previous rulings and restrain the opposing faction from conducting its convention.
The latest development underscores the deepening leadership dispute within the PDP, as rival camps continue to assert control ahead of crucial party decisions.
Efforts to get a reaction from the faction loyal to Wike were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
