Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a group of desperate politicians rather than a credible opposition force.
In a post on his Facebook page, the former Aviation Minister argued that the country’s opposition landscape has effectively crumbled, warning that political disunity is weakening democratic accountability.
According to Fani-Kayode, the ADC is largely made up of individuals he considers discredited and incapable of advancing national progress.
“I don’t see ADC as an opposition party: I see them as an association of people that are desperate for power. Individuals that are discredited, individuals that have no hope in hell of moving this nation forward,” he wrote.
He criticized opposition parties for failing in their core responsibility to hold the government accountable, pointing to infighting and internal conflicts as key weaknesses.
“There is no opposition because they don’t even know how to be in opposition. How can they keep the government on its toes when they are busy bickering amongst themselves?” Fani-Kayode added.
He further stressed that the lack of cohesion among opposition leaders has left them ineffective, describing their actions as “fast asleep in bed snoring.”
The former minister’s comments have reignited debates about the state of opposition politics in Nigeria, with critics arguing that internal divisions continue to undermine democratic checks and balances.
