U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a temporary delay in planned attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure, granting a 10-day window to allow for further diplomatic discussions.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump said the pause—requested by Iran—will last until April 6, 2026, giving both sides more time to explore possible resolutions to the escalating conflict.
Despite the extension, Iran’s leadership has pushed back strongly. The country’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Ghalibaf, stated that Iran would not be pressured by threats or ultimatums, insisting that the nation remains firm in its position.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Iran may be preparing for a large-scale military response, with claims that over one million fighters could be mobilised if the United States proceeds with a ground invasion.
On the U.S. side, the Pentagon has begun deploying additional troops and military assets to the Middle East, including units from the 82nd Airborne Division, signaling readiness for potential escalation.
Former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has supported the idea of targeting Iran’s strategic Kharg Island, describing it as a critical point for controlling the country’s oil exports. He argued that seizing the location could pressure Iran into concessions over its nuclear and regional policies.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also addressed the situation, noting slight improvements in global oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he stressed that full stability would only return if Iran stops interfering with international shipping.
Rubio further urged countries committed to international law to take a stronger stance, subtly criticising nations that have remained neutral in the conflict.
In Europe, concerns continue to grow. Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius described the war as a major threat to the global economy and reaffirmed Europe’s position of avoiding deeper involvement.
The situation remains tense, with diplomatic efforts ongoing but the risk of wider conflict still looming.
