Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai has been granted temporary bail following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
The release, approved by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, allows him to attend and carry out the funeral rites of his late mother, who passed away in Cairo after an illness.
The development was confirmed by his son, Bashir El-Rufai, who announced the release in a social media post. Hajiya Umma, believed to be about 100 years old, died just days after the passing of her daughter-in-law, deepening the family’s grief.
Condolences have poured in from prominent figures, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, all of whom praised her life and legacy.
El-Rufai remains in custody over corruption and money laundering allegations and is expected back in court as proceedings continue.
