A health worker kidnapped from a Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, Ondo State, has recounted the traumatic experience she and her colleagues suffered after being taken by gunmen.
The survivor, Omolabake Kayode, who spoke with our correspondent in Akure on Saturday, said the attackers stormed the facility in the early hours of the day, arriving in a bus at about 2am and whisking away three members of staff.
She explained that the armed men caused panic within the premises as workers on duty scrambled for safety, with some attempting to hide but were eventually discovered, beaten, and robbed of their phones.
Kayode said the assailants later drove them to a secluded area along the Akure-Ondo expressway, where the victims were subjected to intimidation and exploitation.
According to her, the kidnappers compelled them to disclose confidential banking information, which was used to withdraw money from their accounts before they were stripped of their belongings and left behind in the bush.
She added that the gunmen issued stern warnings against raising alarm, threatening dire consequences if they failed to comply.
The victim said that after the attackers departed, she and her colleagues cautiously navigated their way out of the forest and reached a correctional facility in Olokuta, where they reported the incident.
She noted that officials at the facility promptly contacted operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun, who intervened and ensured their safe recovery.
Confirming the incident, the Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, said the victims were rescued around 4:30am on Saturday and were receiving medical care.
He further disclosed that operatives also rescued a 45-year-old man and his teenage son who were abducted on Friday evening at the Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure after a confrontation with their captors.
