The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a large consignment of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the illicit drugs were cleverly concealed inside the heads of imported dry stock fish.
He disclosed that operatives of the NDLEA also arrested a key member of the drug syndicate responsible for trafficking the substance across international borders, particularly to India.
Babafemi explained that the breakthrough followed intelligence reports on the group’s transnational criminal activities, which prompted a coordinated sting operation by the agency’s strategic command.
The operation, carried out on March 19 in the Ojo area of Lagos, led to the discovery of three jumbo-sized bags in the possession of the suspected kingpin.
The NDLEA said investigations are ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the drug trafficking network and curb the movement of illicit substances through Nigeria’s airports.
