The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a combination of dust haze and sunshine across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency said northern states such as Kebbi and Kano will experience moderate dust haze on Monday, with visibility expected to range between two to five kilometres, while other parts of the region will remain sunny and hazy.
For the central region, including the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, NiMet forecast similar dusty conditions, with most areas expected to experience sunny and hazy weather throughout the period.
In the southern region, the agency projected generally sunny skies with occasional cloud patches. However, it noted the likelihood of afternoon and evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in states such as Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet added that on Tuesday, slight dust haze would persist in parts of the north, while central states would continue to experience sunny and hazy conditions, with isolated thunderstorms expected in parts of Plateau State.
By Wednesday, the northern and central regions are expected to remain largely sunny and hazy, while southern states, including Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, Delta, and Lagos, may experience thunderstorms with light rains later in the day.
The agency warned that dust particles in the air could pose health risks, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma, and advised the public to take necessary precautions. It also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and recommended that airline operators obtain location-specific weather reports for safe flight planning.
