Renowned author and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has cautioned married women against using financial superiority to dominate or humiliate their husbands, warning that such actions could harm marital harmony.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, and sighted by Legal Observer, Omokri stressed that men possess egos that can be easily bruised, and that allowing money to interfere in domestic dynamics may irreversibly damage relationships.
He drew lessons from history and religious examples, citing Khadija bint Khuwaylid, the wealthy wife of Prophet Muhammad. Despite her age and financial advantage, Khadija reportedly honoured her husband, an act Omokri said helped love flourish between them.
Omokri also referenced the late British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, noting that she personally cooked and served her husband, Dennis Thatcher, without delegating the task to domestic staff. He used the example to illustrate the importance of mutual respect and humility in marriage.
“Your husband is already facing a boss at work. Allow him to be the boss at home, or the marriage may suffer irreparable harm,” Omokri advised, urging women to balance financial independence with consideration for their spouse’s dignity.
According to Omokri, the practice of using wealth as a tool of control undermines love and mutual respect, and couples should instead cultivate a partnership built on honour and understanding.
He emphasised that even in marriages where one partner is significantly wealthier, respect, empathy, and shared responsibility remain critical to sustaining marital bliss.
Omokri’s commentary has sparked conversations online, with many social media users agreeing that financial power should not translate to domestic dominance.
